A Roar with the Wedge!

Guess what? The higher beings which hold the power to the fashion trends of this world have come together to agree that they would indeed bring the most popular and fashionable print to our beloved wedge shoes! Yes! Animal print has come roaring onto our platform wedges to give our favorite clunky shoes an extra pizzazz!
As you can probably tell, I am a huge fan of ladies wedge shoes and it’s ridiculous style it brings to every outfit you throw it into. There is just something so wild about these platform wedges that have me undoubtedly reaching for a pair in my size. I think it’s just the funkiness of it that guarantees you a fabulous and fun time in them no matter where you go.
In Europe, black has and always will be the color of choice amongst fashionable men and women. With animal print, this loud pattern is sure to be your head-turner. So keeping the rest of your ensemble quiet and letting the inner beast roar through your apparel, is all you need. So keeping a black on black outfit would go purr-fectly with these animal print wedge shoes.
For the winter, black tights or skinnies, or a black skirt accompanied with a tailored blazer or biker leather jacket. Keeping it cool and chic, then strapping on your ladies wedge shoes to go with it, oh… it’s just magical! The key to wearing wedge shoes though, is that you have keep the shape of your ankle exposed to make sure your shoes are not drowning under a pair of flared trousers or bell-bottom jeans.

Outrageous and Orange!

We see it all around us. Color blocking has come, it has made its dramatic entrance, and it is here to stay! I can’t say that I don’t like it because to be honest, I think women’s apparel could use a punch of bold colors every so often. And it’s just so undeniably fun to play dress up in all the rainbow shades we now have to choose from in everything from clothing to accessories, and now, even to your favorite pair of high heels!
Many fashion designing houses whether in New York, Paris, London or Milan, have all taken firm hold of this still-in-development trend that is pouring out bucketfuls of playful fashion into the streets creating a palate of colors no matter which way you look. Women’s apparel has spun this trend into different shapes, stripes and styles to bend the matter of these shades into limitless options for us women to choose from. But of all the colors, one has rested in my mind as being a citrusy dream to play with: orange!
Some of my favorite platform heels don the same colors that we like to play safe and in the middle of the road with: yes. The blacks, the grays and sometimes, only sometimes, the nudes. You really can not go wrong with the given combination of shoe colors, but it really leaves your shoe wardrobe screaming for more amidst your cries that it really is hard to pull off such bold colors like purple, yellow and orange. But do not fear! If the Fall collection of Prada has taught us anything, it’s that colors are actually quite magical and invigorating. And the more outrageous a color is, the more fun it is to play with!
No one does bold and crazy better than Japan Vogue’s editor in chief, and one of my all-time favorite fashionistas, Anna dello Russo. Claiming to only wear runway, Anna has taken the orange platform heels off of Prada’s new line, and taken it to the streets and made it look effortlessly cool in a pair of orange and black stripes pair of high heels that makes you almost wish it were Halloween again!
With an outfit that has hints of orange in it, you can easily pull on a pair of orange heels yourself and indulge in a world of bold and beautiful where the more colors you can incorporate into your world of orange- the better. Fashion waits for no man, and while these trends are circulating at a rapid pace around us, it’s time to take hold of something you wouldn’t normally do- and be daring in pairing yourself with your own set of orange shoes. Have fun with it! And most of all, feel fabulous!

Khachkars

The earliest khachkars date from the ninth century, but the best were probably carved in the 12th to 14th centuries.
They were erected primarily as memorial stones to commemorate the deceased, although some memorialize military victories or even the consecration of churches. Others are reminders to passersby of an individual’s donation to a particular church, especially those stones embedded in a church’s walls.
Generally, freestanding khachkars are three to six feet tall, are carved of stone and have a cross carved in the center surrounded by an elaborate design. Sometimes the design is abstract, sometimes consisting of leaves or vines. Those embedded either on the inside or outside of church walls are usually smaller than the freestanding stones.
There are outstanding examples of khachkars at the following churches and monastic complexes: Saghmosavank (embedded in the walls), Noravank (both freestanding and embedded), Haghpat (both freestanding and embedded) and Echmiadzin, where some of the oldest and/or most beautiful examples have been moved from their original locations and now line a wall in the garden.
The single most beautiful khachkar I saw was one at Goshavank. So delicately carved, it looked as if it were made of lace and not of stone.
The most memorable khachkars, however, were the ones at Noratus on Lake Sevan, where almost a thousand khachkars fill a field. As remarkable as the number of khachkars there is the fact they span over a thousand years, from about the year AD 1000 to those erected just a month or two ago.
Particularly poignant are some of the ancient khachkars standing shoulder to shoulder — sometimes 10 or 12 in a row — marking a family’s burial plot. It is estimated that there are over 40,000 khachkars throughout Armenia.
I fell in love with the khachkars and could have spent weeks admiring them, but Armenia offers much more. First of all are the monasteries, themselves, with or without khachkars. Besides those I’ve already named, we also visited Harichavank, Talin, Zvartnots, Geghard and Khor Virap.

Genuine eateries in Monaco

France's food is world-renowned for its elegance and perfection. The area of Monaco offers authentic French fanfare, but also is home to quirky local favorites and international delights.
Socca is a traditional pancake made of chickpea flour, olive oil, salt and water. Arguably, the best version of this addictive dish is found at Pip Socca in Nice, reports Fodor's. Due to their big base of clientele, it seems patrons return often for their crispy cakes that they make in large copper tins.
Some guests may be hesitant about Monte Carlo with its excessive glitz and glamour, but the area is home to some spectacular French cuisine that may be worth a splurge, reports Frommer's. Rampoldi has some old-world charm and a festive spirit that ignites their dishes with flavor and character. The tortellini with a white-truffle cream sauce is great alongside a homemade crepe to finish.
Kids can have a fun food experience as well inside the principality. Parents may groan at the Stars n' Bars Americanized theme of burgers and pizza, however it may prove to be a nice break during a big exotic getaway.

Eating more fiber equals longer life

Generally, Americans do not eat enough fiber, and one reason for insufficient fiber intake is the decline in consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and beans. Yet these foods can reduce the risk of dying from certain diseases by up to 60 percent.
According to researchers for the National Cancer Institute, who conducted the research, “our study found that dietary fiber intake, especially from grains, was inversely associated with the risk of death from infectious and respiratory diseases.”
The researchers explained that inflammation is a significant factor in many infectious and respiratory diseases, and that fiber has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. “The anti-inflammatory properties of dietary fiber could explain, in part, significant inverse associations of dietary fiber intake with infectious and respiratory diseases as well as with CVD [cardiovascular] death,” they noted.
Currently, the American Heart Association recommends people consume about 25 grams of fiber daily, while the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends consuming 14 grams for every 1,000 calories. Yet most Americans eat only about half of the recommended amount of fiber daily.
In the new study, the National Cancer Institute investigators evaluated data from 219,123 men and 168,999 women who had participated in the National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study. After analyzing the deaths that occurred over about nine years of study, the researchers discovered that subjects who consumed 25 to 30 grams of fiber daily had a 22 percent lower risk of death from all the causes.
More specifically, the highest intake of fiber was associated with a reduced risk of death from cardiovascular, infectious, and respiratory diseases ranging from 34 to 59 percent among women and 24 to 56 percent among men. Grains demonstrated the strongest association with a reduction in death.
Some of the foods highest in fiber include bulgur, barley, whole wheat flour, beans (navy, white, kidney, black, pinto), lentils, split peas, cornmeal, and dates. A number of all-bran cereals are also very good sources of fiber.
The researchers, led by Yikyung Park, ScD, noted that eating more fiber can help people live longer and “reduce the risk of premature death from all causes, especially from CVD and infectious and respiratory diseases.”

Diet soda may contribute to weight gain and diabetes

Diet sodas and artificial sweeteners may not be the healthy alternatives to their regular counterparts that many people believe them to be. Two new studies out of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio suggest quite the contrary: artificial sweeteners may promote increased waistlines and insulin resistance.
One study focused on a population of elderly people, while a related study focused on the long-term impact of aspartame in mice.
The team first assessed data from 474 elderly Mexican Americans and European Americans. Diet soft drink users, as a group, experienced 70 per cent greater increases in waist circumference compared with non-users. Frequent users, who said they consumed two or more diet sodas a day, experienced waist circumference increases that were 500 per cent greater than those of non-users.
In the related project, researchers studied the relationship between oral exposure to aspartame and fasting glucose and insulin levels in 40 diabetes-prone mice. The mice in the aspartame group showed elevated fasting glucose levels but equal or diminished insulin levels, consistent with early declines in pancreatic beta-cell function.
Study researcher Gabriel Fernandes, professor of rheumatology and clinical immunology at the university, said that aspartame use might directly contribute to elevated glucose levels and thus the risk for Type 2 diabetes.
The two studies contribute to an interesting and on-going debate about the advisability of quaffing diet soda. Many individuals who are attempting to limit their calorie consumption opt for diet soft drinks because they provide zero calories. On paper, at least, diet soda appears to be as harmless as drinking water. Healthy-eating advocates have long maintained that diet sodas are not harmless, however, because they contain synthetic sweeteners with dubious biochemical properties.
No one has definitively proven that artificial sweeteners directly damage human tissue, but these studies may point out an altogether different harm vector. Unlike water, diet soda tastes quite sweet. When we consume a diet soft drink, our taste buds are sending a message to the brain which essentially says, “I am now ingesting sugary food.” The brain then signals the pancreas to release insulin in anticipation of the sugar being introduced into the body. However, the sugar never materializes, leading to an overproduction of insulin. Over time, chronic use of diet soda may thus lead to an exhausted pancreas and body cells which have been conditioned to be insulin-resistant – two hallmarks of Type 2 diabetes.
The studies were presented Saturday, June 25, at the meeting of the American Diabetes Association.

natural skin care

When you purchase natural skin care, you can expect to find more natural ingredients in the overall composition. These items can contain things like herbs, natural oils, flowers, and even vegetables. You can also find various other plant-based ingredients. Some natural skin care products can contain small amounts of chemicals, so you’ll want to double check the label to be sure.
Natural skin care products will still function in the same way that your previous products did, but with a few changes. Some natural skin care products, like face cleansers will not foam as much as your old cleanser did. This is because the ingredient that causes things to lather is not a naturally occurring ingredient. For some, this will be a bit of an adjustment, but you can be rest assured that these products are still working as well as your older products.

Some people even believe that natural skin care products will work better than their chemical-laden counterparts. This is because some people react to toxins and this can leave their skin looking worse rather than better. By removing those ingredients, you may be able to have more balanced and healthy skin that doesn’t become damaged by chemicals; rather, it is supported by natural ingredients that can increase the skin’s own natural regeneration process.

Cosmetics Wholesale

Cosmetics wholesale: did you ever think of starting this kind of home business? I am sure that many women would be really excited if they knew about how to start with a small cosmetics home retail business. First you have to find a decent cosmetics wholesale company. The rest is up to you.
There are many great things you can sell from your home. One great way to make money is to have things for sale on auction sites. Places like eBay are very popular, but there are many more out there that you can use. Whatever you want to do, you have to find your product at a reduced price so that you can make a profit. Some things are going to make more money than others, but as long as you find something that people need, you can always find buyers. One great way to get started is to find cosmetics wholesale and then sell them one at a time.
There is a great market for cosmetics as long as you get a quality brand. You should always know what you are buying when you get cosmetics wholesale, but you probably already know a bit about them if you use them. If you are man, you can talk with your wife about what she likes and doesn’t like, and what items are the ones that might sell the best. This can give you some direction when you are looking for the right things to buy when getting cosmetics wholesale. Getting the right product is always key.
What you should remember when looking at lots of cosmetics wholesale is that some of them are expired. This is not the best choice when you want to have repeat sales and happy customers. If you sell something old and even out of date, you aren’t going to have a good reputation, and you may be having to make a lot of refunds. Always check the expiration date, and if you don’t see one on the listing, write to the seller and ask them about this particular issue so you don’t buy a bunch of product that you cannot use.
You can find cosmetics wholesale in many places, and one of them are the very auction sites that you plan to use for your own business. They come and go, and some are better than others, so take your time. Rushing into the first lot of cosmetics wholesale that you find might not be the best idea. You may be eager to get started, but you don’t want to rush in and make a mistake that kills your reputation right off the bat. You will find what you need if you search around and take your time.

White Summer Dress

A white summer dress looks gorgeous on most women. However, two things come in mind immediately: it looks best on you when you have a tan, and secondly, the white dress has to be impeccable. Stains or dirty spots ruin the effect, and make the dress look really cheap.
If you think you look good in white, you may want to have some in your wardrobe. White dresses look really good in the summer, and they are also great when you have a tan to show off. However, white is very hard to care for, and sometimes it is a big waste of money to buy anything in white. If you want to have white, be sure you know how to take care of your dress to keep it looking fresh and clean, and when to avoid wearing your dress altogether.
White dresses are prone to picking up just about anything you can imagine. Because there is no color, every little stain or even a dot is going to show. If you are going somewhere in which a mess could be very possible, you may want to skip wearing your white dress on that day. It might seem that a dress that is white would be perfect for an afternoon picnic with the extended family, but this is just one time when you should skip it. There are just too many foods and outdoor elements that could ruin your white dresses for good.
Besides watching where you go wearing your white summer dress, you should know how to care for them when the inevitable stain does occur. You may know to wash your white clothing in bleach, and this is something you should do each time. Never wash white dresses with anything other than white clothing. Dyes from any other color can taint your pure white color. For a stain that seems to be impossible, do a soak in bleach water. If your washing machine has a soak feature, that is a great way to do it. This might be ideal for all white items each time you put them through the wash.
White summer dresses also need a certain amount of help beyond bleach when a stain happens. Even grease splatters can ruin white clothing rather quickly. It is a great idea to have a good spot treatment on hand. When my wedding dress got a grease stain on it an hour before my wedding, Shout took it right out. It can do the same for your white dress and other clothing items. There are many other spot treatments on the shelves that can give you the same great results. Try a few until you find one that works great and keep it stocked up if you love to wear white dresses, pants, socks, and shirts.

Clothing Style In The Fifties

The clothing style of the fifties is getting a vivid revival. Styles come and go like a perpetual merry go round. What seems to be old fashioned this year can be incredibly hot next year, and vice versa… The fifties clothing style however had to wait for a very long time to get some attention again.
1950s clothing style was very diverse. There were conservative values spread across the country but many young people chose to rebel and express themselves by dressing as “greasers” or pin-up girls.  This decade was popular for exaggerating female and male attributes.
1950s clothing style is captured in a few pieces, some of them still widely used today including: the cashmere sweater, neck scarf, poodle skirt, leather jacket, cat eye glasses and pedal pushers.  These clothes were fun to wear and kids took advantage of the easy access they had to them.
The poodle skirt was popular in 1950s clothing style.  The skirt got its name not from the shape or design of it but from the poodle featured on each one.  Whether embodied or patched, the iconic poodle could by seen toward the bottom of the hemline.
The cashmere sweater was a very luxurious item back in the 1950s. Cashmere, wool from a goat, and was imported to America.  They could only be found in special boutiques and great care was taken to maintain them.  Now, cashmere sweater, scarves and dresses are found in a variety of specialty and department stores and come in many colors and styles.
Cat eyeglasses were a huge part of women’s 1950s clothing style.  Very fashion forward thinking women and some men wore the thick-framed glasses throughout the 1950’s.  Even celebrities wore these glasses onstage and in films.  They are still worn totally but the frames are more neutral, either black or tortoise, without the embellishments and bright colors.
Leather jackets will never go out of style.  In 1950s clothing style, they were black and sometimes fitted.  Most young men wore them with the collars turned up.  Now leather is worn is a variety of colors and faux leather materials are available to cost the cost of high style.
Pedal pushers are iconic throughout the 1950s because the shorter pants originally used for cycling became a popular and comfortable fashion staple for many young women.  Made from denim of cotton and often paired with flat shoes, they helped tie together a look that was very easy to wear.
America embraced materialism during the 1950’s and this shone through the clothing people chose to wear.  In the 1940s, clothing had to be simple and useful but in the 1950s, with new homes being built and businesses expanding, it was acceptable for people to spend more time and money clothing themselves.

Halloween Costumes For Infants

Halloween Costumes For Infants are a real hype in 2009. Of course your baby is not going to remember much at all about this year’s Halloween, but it will make a great picture or video show to enjoy in the coming years.
There are many firsts in the life of each child. When you think about each of these, your child can not do much to participate, but you want to have good memories to share with them in the future. Some like to get Halloween costumes for infants, even if that child is not going to go out and do anything on that day. Some of these are really cute, and most are safe, but you do have to be careful. You may only put the outfit on your baby for a few minutes to take pictures, but in the long run, you will be glad that you took the time to do it.
When you think of Halloween costumes for infants, you probably think of the traditional costume that goes with the theme of Halloween. You probably do not want to dress your infant up in something scary, but rather, something cute and potentially cuddly. After all, what is more fun that cuddling your baby? Some of these costumes for infants come in very simple yet very cute designs. Some are form fitting and some are not, just remember that you do not want any hanging pieces they could put into their mouths or any closures that could hurt your baby. Most are made well, but check them out anyway.
Your baby is not going to have a preference, but if they are very young, remember how well they can see. They may see a lot in contrast, black, white, and red, but not much else. That means you may want to find Halloween costumes for infants that incorporate these colors. They may have more fun looking at that costume and feeling it with their hands and skin than wearing it, so get something with an interesting texture as well. Halloween is often a cooler time of year, so make sure your child will be warm if you do intend to take them out with you for trick or treating when taking older children.
There are some crafty people that can make their own Halloween costumes for infants. If you are one of these people, keep a few things in mind. You want something that fits, but tight is not a good idea. Your baby will be uncomfortable at best. Use materials like cotton that breathe, but that can also keep them warm. You want to have reflective materials somewhere on the costume, or on your stroller if you will be pushing them in one. Also, make sure everything is securely attached so baby does not pull pieces off to put into his or her mouth.
You can find a wide range of Halloween costumes for infants online if you do not want to make one on your own. Most companies will have what you need, but order early so that you know your choice will be available and that it will get to you in time for the holiday. If it comes late, it will be too small to use the next year. Pay attention to materials and small parts, and order a bit big if you are not sure the costume is going to fit.

Hair from 20s to Present

Short boyish haircuts were popular throughout the 1920s to the late 1930s. In the 1940s, hair was often still hid under hats, but usually was longer and tied in a bun or other up-do. During the Second World War, scarves and turbines were also popular.

Hats and turbines (sometimes even worn together) remained popular until the 1960s. After this time women began to perm and/or dye their hair. Wigs were more popular after this time as well, and the wearing of hats declined dramatically.

Men’s hair (just like the short women’s cuts) of the 1920s and 1930s was usually neatly combed and groomed, and usually parted to the side. Hair for men was “greased” back. In the 1950s hair was still greased back, but hairstyles usually consisted of more hair on the top of the head (especially biker styles).

For women in the 1950s, hair was waved and fit to frame the face, or to be pulled back. Some actresses had wore their hair extremely short-way above the ears, as if it had been cut with a hair trimmer.

In the 1960s, beehive and flip-style hairdos were more popular for women. For the men, bowl cuts, such as the ones that are similar to what the Beatles wore are very popular as well. These looks continued on to the late 1960s.

From the 1970s on, long-straight hair was popular for women, as well as for some men. Hairstyles were usually parted down the middle. Large puffy hair worn by Motown singers were also considered very in from 1969 on to the 1970s, and short wavy hairstyles like Jodie Foster wore in 1976 were in.

Layered haircuts were also popular during this time. This trend in fact continued on during the 1980s, and then big hairstyles with bangs were very popular. In the early 1990s when straight hair or spiral perms became the norm at least in some areas.

From the 1970s to the current time punk hairstyles such as shaved heads, Mohawks, and painted hair were worn. These were usually the hairdos of those who wanted to make a statement, or just simply to be different from mainstream society. Many mainstream and independent artists had punk hairdos.

Heavy metal hairstyles for men were quite popular, especially after the 1980s. Male heavy metal rock groups would tease and/or color their hair, which usually was let to grow long.
http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/fashions.html
There are still standards for hairstyles in the year 2007. For the workplace hairdos are very conservative, usually in a straight style, or sometimes waved or slightly permed. Outside of the normal office or retail arena standards for hairdressing are usually more relaxed, such as that for musicians, artists, and writers.

Accessories from 20s to Present

From the 1920s to the 1940s a variety of different styles of necklaces were made to cover the neckline. For instance, one necklace was designed with rows of semi-precious and/or precious stones (clear diamond like ones). These stones were set on pieces of different types of gold.

Other types of necklaces that were created during this 20-year time span include a necklace made from glass beads and enamel. These were strung on molded plated nickel, or lustred metals.

Large gaudy bracelets made out of a variety of hard plastics and faux gems. Metal ethnic-themed thick bracelets were often worn during this time as well, along with dangly, shiny earrings.

During the 1920s to the 1940s a variety of different types of hats were created, such as cloches and turbans. Wider-brimmed hats that covered over part of the face sometimes were worn as well.

Jewelry in the 1950s was modeling after similar trends as earlier decades. However, necklaces became thinner, often containing a strand of pearls, and sometimes accompanied matching earring designs.

A new shift in jewelry fashion had occurred again during the 1960s and the 1970s. Multiple strands of “love beads” were worn, as well as country-style female “farmer-style” straw (or straw like) hats.

Blouses and Shirts from 20s to Present

One of the most popular styles of blouses that were introduced in the 1920s was the jumper blouse. This particular garment was made from cotton or silk and sometimes was made with a sailor collar. It was meant to be worn over a skirt, reaching just below the hips and sometimes accompanied by a belt or sash.

Other blouses and shirts made in the 1920s were low-cut with a V-neck and sometimes were worn with chemisettes (fill-ins) attached to promote modesty.

Knit long-sleeve shirts with round collars and tank blouses were also popular during the 1920s, and men of this time often wore short-sleeved polo shirts. Of course, traditional dress shirts were worn for formal occasions as well, and sometimes men also wore plus fours (baggy knee pants) and bold-print knit sweater.

The 1930s marked the return of more feminine fashions once again. Therefore, for the most part blouses worn in this decade for women were either designed with a v-neck collar or made with a long bow attached that tied around the neck.

Sleeveless blouses and knit shirts were often worn during this time as well, and many were made from linen or satin materials. Other blouses were made from rayon or silk.

A shift in fashion took place during the 1940s during World War II. For instance, fabrics such as nylon and silk were replaced with the use of rayon and viscose for more formal dress.

Sometimes terry cloth, linen, and canvas were used as well, but mostly for leisure shirts. Generally speaking necklines were high, but occasionally they were off the shoulder.

Working women during the war wore military style shirts with button-up collars for more formal dress that resemble the utility shirts that women wore. However, women who were involved in the American Woman’s Auxiliary Corps. Usually wore the full war utility outfit.

After the war to the middle of the 1950s trends in women’s fashion changed again. By 1954 rounded necks on either sleeveless shirts or long sleeve shirts were often worn. Polo-necked shirts were also popular during this time, as well as bat-winged sweaters.

In the 1960s, ethnic print blouses, ribbed turtle neck sweaters, and boat-necked blouses were often worn. Classic white butterfly color shirts were worn on occasion as well, for either casual or semi-dressy occasions. Print-print shirts with striped or “wild” patterns were often worn as well during this time.

From the late 1960s to the mid-1970s new kinds of fashion were also born. New bright-colored shirts and blouses created with Psychedelic fashions were in during this time. Indian cheesecloth shirts and “flower power” clothing were also popular as well.

Space fashions were also popular during the late 1960s. Numerous types of clothes were made out of leather and plastic during these times. Similar fashions were then re-introduced in the 1980s, along with many new ones.

Another aspect of the 1980s was the phenomenon of dressing to impress. During this decade people were encourages to where the suit and tie (men), or the skirt suit (women). People in the 1980s who made quite a bit of money and went after the American dream of owning the big house, big car, and so on was often labeled as “yuppies” because of the clothes they wore.

Changes in Dresses and Skirt Styles: 1920s to the Present

Changes in skirt and dress fashion not only changed quite a bit over the past seven and three-quarters decades (over 77 years), but also during each decade as well. For instance, only two years after the end of World War I (in 1920) skirt and dress hem lines rose. Along with that women’s waist lines lowered to the hip.

During 1926 and 1928 is said to be when skirt hem lines were the highest. Then, after the stock market crash in the year 1929 (major event leading to the Great Depression) hem lines returned to a more conservative length (below the knee or lower).

In the 1930s the boyish look of the 1920s was slowly receding in popularity. Again was the return of femininity. It was during the 1930s that the movie star image was very much envied and copied by women who were physically fit to model Hollywood-style clothing.

One of the signature fashion pieces of the 1930s was the bias cut evening gown made of materials such as chiffon or velvet. These dresses were often accented with items such as diamante clips and gold chokers.

Day wear in the 1930s consisted of items such as a slim-cut dress made with wide shoulders. This dress was usually worn with a belt around the waist. A sharp tailored suit with the hem line of the skirt below the knee may have also been worn during this time.

“Real” fur wraps and floral print dresses were also very popular in the 1930s. This glamorous look lost its luster after 1939, when World War II broke out.

A couple of years After World War II started, the use of luxurious fabrics such as wool, silk, and nylon were highly regulated. Most clothes during this time were instead made from viscose and rayon-including women’s skirts.

Sometimes both women’s and girl’s skirts or dresses were made out of anything that could be found within a home. For instance, sometimes a nightgown would be turned into a wedding dress or a sheet may be turned into a skirt.

Moreover, it was highly illegal during this time-especially after 1942-to use excess fabric, accessories, or trimmings to accent an outfit. This restriction lasted about until about 1947, which well over a year after this World War has been recorded as officially ending.

In the 1950s, A-line skirts as well as pencil skirts were very popular. These are both more form-fitting pieces of clothing than are the longer skirts that were more popular in the mid to late 1970s (hippie rayon skirts most likely made from linen or rayon).

From the late 1950s to the late 1960s a variety of different mini-dresses and maxi-length skirt outfits were being introduced to the market. It was during this time that the youth were thought of as the main influence of fashion.

Then, in the 1980s another shift in fashion occurred. The push for more “responsible dress” took place during this decade, and the term “yuppie” was used to describe those who dress in business or office clothing.

The 1980s also was the time period during which “punk” or rock n’ roll dress became more and more acceptable. Ripped jeans and T-shirts, unusually colored hair, multiple earrings, and neon clothing were often worn by celebrities and copied by common people.

In the 1990s, dress became simpler, yet more provocative. Shirts were lower-cut during this decade and skirts were short again, unlike in the 1980s (for the most part). However, generally speaking most people living from 1990 to the present day are likely to dress in whatever they most feel comfortable in-just like during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s. Following on from the 90's to today, fashions have now evolved yet again to offer both casual and formal clothing that makes present-day fashion both elegant and chic.
